Conductor Auditions 2018/19
Durham University Chamber Choir are now accepting applications to conduct the society in the 2018-19 academic year. The choir consists of 24 of Durham’s finest choral singers and is auditioned annually. Reputed for its high standards of singing and musicianship the choir performs regularly throughout the year in venues such as the Cathedral Chapter House, St Godric’s Church and Durham Castle Great Hall. All applicants must be students at Durham University (undergraduate or postgraduate) and resident in Durham during term time for the next academic year. No formal conducting experience is required.
Among other things, conductors are responsible for planning and taking all weekly rehearsals, choosing repertoire, and selecting the society’s members through annual auditions. They are also expected to go on the society’s annual tour at the end of the year; previous destinations have included Budapest and Lisbon.
This is an exciting opportunity to conduct one of the Universities finest choirs. Throughout the year the choir undertake a number of masterclasses having recently worked with individuals such as Nigel Short and Eamonn Dougan. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop as a conductor whilst working with a committed and talented group of singers.

Deadline for applications is 5pm on Sunday 4th March, any late applications will not be considered. Successful applicants will be invited to audition on the evening of Wednesday 7th March. In the audition applicants will be given a short length of time to rehearse two pieces with the choir. Shortlisted candidates will then be asked to an interview on Thursday 8th March with the current executive committee.
