Eleanor is in her final year at St Cuthbert's Society studying German and Russian.
She started singing at St Catharine's College, Cambridge as a chorister in 2008 and has been involved with the college and its choirs ever since. She has been involved with numerous ensembles throughout her time at Durham, holding choral scholarships at both St John’s College Chapel Choir and Castle College Chapel Choir. She has sung with the Chamber Choir, Castle Compline Choir and Durham Opera Ensemble in the past, and is also Consort Manager for Dunelm Consort and Players this year, having sung with them since 2016.
On her year abroad in Leipzig, Germany and Perm, Russia, Eleanor sang with the Leipziger Kammerchor and the Sächsischer Kammerchor and acquainted herself with Russian opera in Moscow and Saint Petersberg.
Emily is a finalist studying French and Spanish at Castle, having spent her year abroad in Brussels and Madrid.
Since coming to Durham, has been heavily involved with the music scene. She was a member of Castle Chapel Choir from 2016-2018 and has also participated in various DOE productions including The Magic Flute in 2018.
Outside of Durham, she is a member of the National Youth Choir of Great Britain and was the Alto 1 Section Leader in 2017-18. She continues to sing in both the Main Choir and the Chamber Choir and is excited for their upcoming tour to New Zealand and Australia.
During her year abroad, Emily joined the Brussels Chamber Choir and had the opportunity to sing in various locations throughout Belgium and Europe, including a choral competition in the Netherlands. In her spare time, Emily plays in goal for the Durham University Women’s Football Club.
Marcello is a second year Music student studying at St. Chad’s College Durham, where he was a Choral Scholar last year. He began his studies at Junior Guildhall, and is a violinist, pianist, singer, composer and, more recently, an organist.
A previous Music Scholar at Eton College, Marcello has received conducting tuition from Tim Johnson, Ralph Allwood and Peter Stark. He feels fortunate to have watched rehearsals under Paul McCreesh, David Hill, as well as orchestral conductors such as Antonio Pappano, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Ed Gardner, and Simon Rattle. Also a composer, Marcello is lucky to have observed Oliver Knussen’s final rehearsals with the BBCSO and George Benjamin’s rehearsals for Lessons in Love and Violence.
Marcello has engaged in composition masterclasses with Nico Muhly and Laura Bowler, and is currently studying privately with Julian Anderson.
Marcello also conducts DUOS Symphony, and has founded two ensembles, The Patchwork Ensemble and Durham University Concert Opera, of which he is Musical Director and President.
