'Longings and Lamentations'
Durham University Chamber Choir presents ‘Longings and Lamentations’ - a concert which will take place in Durham Cathedral’s beautiful Chapter House. Over the course of the evening we hope to take you from the twelfth century to the present day, with music which yearns, tinged in the light of love or pain, and sometimes both. We showcase music from Pérotin and Hildegard Von Bingen to contemporary composers such as Thomas Adès, and Pawel Lukaszewski. Our crowning piece of the evening is James MacMillan’s O Virgo prudentissima - an appeal to the Virgin Mary to guard us and dispel gloom from our minds, the same way a star of the sea navigates a boat through turbulent waters, and uncovers its sanctuary through salvation.
We hope to see you there.
